The Smart-Thinker Social Networking Product Suite allows you to integrate any 3rd party module with the profile feed. As of UserProfile version 4.3.14, the popular Ventrian News Article module (version 0.7.17+) now publishes events to the profile feed. It also integrates with the Ifinity Google Sitemap Provider so you can output a list of all your profiles to your Google Sitemap (more on that later).

On PokerDIY we use the News Article (NA) module to allow any poker player to start their own poker blog. When a player blogs about something, comments on a blog or rates a blog the NA module now publishes an event in that user's profile storyfeed (part of the Smart-Thinker UserProfile module).

Here is an example of a poker blog that was commented on by this player. The feed also appears on the PokerDIY homepage and shows site-wide profile events (it only shows the last 10 at the moment).

To configure your site to do this you need to upgrade to the latest Ventrian News Article module and flick the setting on! Let us know on the forums if you have any questions.

ps - have a read of how to publish events to the profile feed if you are a module developer. Storyfeed integrations coming soon:

  • Bizmodule UVG/UMG integration (e.g Mark uploaded new pics, Harry rated this video)
  • DigNuke integration (Sofia created a new contest, Lee voted for this contest)
  • More Ventrian modules...

Ifinity Google Sitemap Integration

Do you use the Ifinity Google SiteMap Provider? If not, I highly recommend checking it out. Where it triumphs over the core and other Sitemap modules is that it integrates with 3rd party modules like the Ventrian News Article module, the core Blog Module and now our very own Smart-Thinker UserProfile module.

So, what does this mean - well lets look at PokerDIY of course ;)  Open a browser to this window  (http://www.pokerdiy.com/GoogleSiteMap.axd). You will notice that it has a lof of URLs and if you scroll down a bit you'll see URLs like this:

http://www.pokerdiy.com/poker-player-profile/id/7160.aspx
2007-05-31

and

http://www.pokerdiy.com/poker-blogs/articletype/articleview/articleid/292/what-online-poker-site-should-i-play.aspx
2008-11-08

If you had to view the core Sitemap.axd (it's restricted on PokerDIY) then you would not see these URLs. The other sitemaps do not explicitly grab all your Blog, News Article and profile URLs. You can expect the entire Smart-Thinker Social Networking Product Suite to do this over the next few releases - e.g output all your events, groups and profiles explicitly in your sitemap to make sure all orphaned URLs are indexed.

Have a read of how to configure the Ifinity Google SiteMap provider to play nicely with the Smart-Thinker UserProfile module.

Q. How many URLs or how big can your DotNetNuke Sitemap be?

A. According to the Google SiteMastee Guidelines, a Sitemap should not be bigger than 10meg or 50k of URLs.
