Details: I am working on a module that could use something very much like this.
I would like to assign View & Edit Security rights to the module based on - Users, Roles, or Custom groups.
The type of security would be setup by the Admin for the instance of the module.
--------
Q's & Suggestions:
Do you think this would be extensible for the above purpose?

If you could make the User selection page alphabetically It would be a little easier to find users.

On my screen the Edit pencil and Text were displayed strangely on the screen on multiple lines.

This module along with your user profile module seem as though they could work together nicely to create an enhanced contacts module.

Another thing that would be nice is if you could add a group to your module, but then choose to disable individuals in the Role. I for example have test users that are in a role, but are not real users.

(It would be great if all of your modules were in the dropdown list)

Hello

Apologies for the late reply - this kind slipped by unnoticed!

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately I can't think of a way to allow UserGroups to be used as part of Role-based security. The problem is that the whole of ASP.NET is geared around Role-based security and you would have to do a LOT of hacking and changing to achieve this. It's not a feature I would treat lightly and I don't envy you to be honest. These UserGroups are purely user-driven, logical groups - you could possible change the core to do this but as I said it would not be easy.

Edit pencils - yes, sorry, these were my containers of my skin - I have fixed this now - nothing to do with the module - but it's all working now.

Contacts module - I am very close to releasing the next UserProfile module version which is geared around contacts/searching and profiles. I think you'll like it.

I'm not sure of your second-last requirement with the disabling of users? Can you not just add a role and delete the extra users you don't want?

I'll make a note of the alphabetical sorting - thanks! (and I will move this to the new UG feedback area)

Regarding Disabling Users.
1st - it assumes you can give the ability to have your contacts module include members of a role, and that it will keep synchronized to include all members of that role.

Then, in the contacts module an admin could disable specific users that have been synched into the role. If you deleted the user, then they could potentially get synched back in.

Hope this makes sense.
