Details: I like the templating capabilities of ST UserProfile, but then I used Mandeeps Live Content!

They have a feature they call "Developer Mode" where-by I can create a tag for an element and then use that anywhere within my Portal.

What I would like to see is for the ST UserProfile Replacement tags ([TAGNAME]) to be available to use outside of the module. This would provide big possibilities when it comes to laying out my site because I could use ST Tags in Text/HTML modules and intergrate them with other modules output (like Xmod Data or Dynamic Forms).

While this idea sounds fantastic, I don't quite understand HOW the HTML module would function and retrieve data from another module? The only way I could think of would be to have a HTTP module that intersected the HTML source and did a find and replace - do you have any idea how it works technically to shed some light on it?

Please note that if you just wanted to use the Text module you can add a ST UserProfile Profile module and use it like the base Text module with User aware properties.

Rod,

I am not sure how Mandeeps has implemented this functionality. My guess is they are doing some type of URL rewrite.

For instance I could have a page (call it Page A) that has a Live Content Module witht several of their elements defined in the module. By assigning a TAG to an element I can then referrence this element from anywhere within the portal simply by creating a link to #LiveContent(TAGNAME).

So I can have an TEXT/HTML module with a hyperlink defined on any string. The hyperlink then calls the element within Live Content based on the AG I have in the hyperlink. It works great for implementing links to any of the many elements that Live Content supports (images, iframe, modules, etc...)

The issue I have with the suggested approach comes into play when I use the AJAX Tabs module to display data from ST UserProfile. I have to have a ST UserProfile module for each of the Tabs instead of just using a single module that can share it's data with any of the modules on the page or in the portal.

I have multiple tabs defined for a profile, each tab defines specific data about the users profile but I can't just use a ST User Profile module for all the tabs.

I would not worry about using multiple ST UP Profile views in your tabs as I do the same thing on PokerDIY and designed it with this in mind. The profiles are cached and the whole point of the templated approach is so that you can split it up like this (the Events module is the same, and I plan to do Groups soon).

Sharing data across a portal is a different story - this would be a big undertaking and I am not sure it would be worth the effort. I just add ST UP modules wherever I choose - but showing data inside ANOTHER type of module would be a lot trickier and substantial work. Lets see how much it is in demand.
