Have default template with modules set up

Details: Hi, I think it might be a little bit easier for users after they create their account to have a page pre-made for them with the modules inserted into panes. The admin should create a default page with modules inserted into different panes, so it is easier for users (like bizmodules.net). All they have to do is add info to them or delete them. I also think that they should just be able to see the following tabs of each module "edit, delete, move". Thanks!

I agree (am I supposed to be able to edit this?) except I need to be able to make a handful of home-page templates and allow a user to select from among them. That would include the selection of the pre-selected skin for a given template.

Yes, I like this idea; a template page which you can point the module at has been on the cards for a long time, but I am afraid it will be a long time before I have time to implement this.

It's good that you added it here so we can see how useful it will be.

This is absolutely the prime feature needed for this module. It's insufficient to dump a bunch of DNN modules on a newbie user and expect them to be able to configure them, so the best way would be if one could set up a template page with modules in place and pre-configured. Is there some way one could leverage the DNN page or site templates functionality to achieve this perhaps? It begins to cross over with those modules that offer full portal creation.. and that is pretty much what I'm after... but simpler for the person who wants their own page.

I also looked at the Bizmodules module but even that doesn't let one have the modules preconfigured although it does let one preselect them. The users have to figure it all out themselves and that really just kills it again. There is also the problem that some modules such as the blog, which installs 5 different modules at once, end up in a mess.

Yes, agreed - the ability to point at another page and copy the layout for the new HomePage will go into the next version - hopefully this will also solve the problem with complex module definitions, although I have raised this with the core team several times as it is a real pain and causes me a lot of problems.

Unfortunately the next version of this module is a good 6 months away - I need to bring all the other modules up to 4.3.x and ASP.NET 2.0 first.

The average user should have the ability to not be exposed to the complexity of setting up modules and going through the configuration process. Google, Yahoo, and mySpace don't do this. Allow the admin to set up the template, have the ability to not show the console, and give the user the freedom to just work with the modules.
