Events and Groups/Leagues  (N/A)

Can the Events module be used on a user group page like how 'Wall' functions?

Thanks

Mark

Re: Events and Groups/Leagues  (Australia)

Sorry Mark, I did not get notified about this for some reason (the Forum emails seem to be acting up so I am going through the Aggregated Feed now)!

So basically you want a Group to own an Event? If this is what you want then there is a lot more to it then it sounds - the Events module would need to be rearchitectured to support this, and the Groups module will need to be changed too. Can you elaborate on what you are trying to achieve please.

Thanks
Rodney

Re: Events and Groups/Leagues  (United States)

I thought that this is what the Events module would do as well -- be owned by the "Group" or "User", like the Wall.

In the documentation it states: "You can decide how people are able to invite guests and whether or not to integrate with the Groups or UserProfile modules." I am assuming the Group integration pertains only to invitations?

What I would like to do is have a Group Calendar that only group members can manage -- basically the exact funtionality of the Wall. Events should stay with the Group, so if the user is a part of multiple groups their events won't show up in other groups.

Is there any way to achieve group calendar currently?  I have no need for RSVP's, invitations, etc,  I just want the Group members to be able to post notices of upcoming events. (eg, Poker Tourney on ESPN this Friday, 8PM)

Re: Events and Groups/Leagues  (Australia)

Yes, the integration is the group invite ability.

Unfortunately Group Calendars would require a re-architecture of the design/backend//UI - it is no small task to achieve this. Please raise this as a Feature Request so we can see how popular it would be, but due to the time required to implement it I don't think I will be able to justify doing it - I think it would take between 10-14 days of work.

Thanks

Re: Events and Groups/Leagues  (N/A)

Rodney, this seems to be such a critical function for social networking sites.  The ability to maintain a group calendar is a huge requirements for most network sites.  One thought on this (I posted this in the feature requests already)....what about keeping this very simple technically in order to save time.  When a user invites a group, why not just insert a cross reference between the group and the event into a GroupEvents table (groupid, eventid).

Then, create a calendar companion module that simply looks up the events based on the passed in group id.

This would preserve the event management on the eents module (no code changes) and simple be a presentation module for group events.
