How to use the new Random Profile Pic assignment feature  (Australia)
Modified By Rodney Joyce on 6/7/2008 11:19:49 PM)

There is a new feature in the UserProfile 4.3.11 which allows you to add profile pics to a directory which are then assigned to new users the first time their profile is viewed. This useful when you want your users to automatically be given a site avatar or profile pic (view the Latest Poker Players on the PokerDIY homepage). Not all users immediately upload a pic and you can have many "No Photo" users in a row. This feature gets around that problem.

Note: After you upgrade the default NoPhoto.gif file is copied into the folder to ensure that the module functions as before (there is a subtle difference that is not visible to the end user - when a profile is viewed the NoPhoto.gif file is copied to their profile pic folder as opposed to it loading from the common NoPhoto.gif file). If this is not what you want you can delete the "NoPhoto.gif" image from the "\Portals\_default\Smart-Thinker\Images\RandomProfilePics" so that there is nothing in there.

To make use of this feature you need to copy profile pics to the folder above. When a profile is viewed that does not yet have a Smart-Thinker UserProfile (ie. a picture and DOB) then this will be assigned from this image pool at random. Note - older profiles may not have a profile pic BUT they may already have a Smart-Thinker UserProfile record, so these will not be assigned an image. It works for new users only. On PokerDIY I added 100 small (under 20kb) profile pics to this folder. The images undergo the same resizing as if you were uploading them manually, but it's worth keeping them small. If you do not want the default "NoPhoto.gif" to be part of the random file pool then you need to erase this (it will be in there after upgrade).

Thanks
Rodney
