Re: how to add friends?  (N/A)

Hi,

There is a view in the UserProfile defintions called "Smart-Thinker - UserProfile - Friends". This contains two "views"/"Controls" - one displays the friends for a user, and the other displays the friend requests for a user. The control that shows the friends for a user can be configured to be used on a user profile (like this poker player on PokerDIY), or it can be used to show the friends for the logged on user (I use this on the home page of PokerDIY for logged in users so they can send PMs to their mates etc.).

These two controls handle the display of the data and the requests. The last thing you need to do is add the correct token to the UserProfile Profile module (the one that displays the actual user profile) - it's something like "[ADDTOFRIENDS]" (check the module setting text for more info. This will then cause an "Add to Friend" image on a users profile that will iniate this process.

So what part of the process are you stuck on? I am going to pin this as it is a good info post.

Thanks
Rodney

Re: how to add friends?  (Finland)

Hi,

I managed to configure the Profile pages and I'm able to create friend requests that are correctly mailed to the person.

Now, when the person who needs to accept the friend requests tries to accept the friend request, he is not able to do it. When he ticks the checkbox and clicks the accept link, nothing happens. The page gets loaded but the same friend is shown on the list of Friend Requests. The same happens if the checkbox is ticked and decline clicked. But when he clicks the small x image , to remove the person from the list, the page is correctly loaded with the person removed and the mail sent to the originating person.

Can you Rodney help me with this?

Ok. I found another post on this: http://www.smart-thinker.com/Support/Forums/tabid/111/forumid/11/threadid/3620/scope/posts/threadpage/2/Default.aspx and tested it with the Profile view setting which worked fine. I hope you'll find a fix for this.

This link returns a "Critical Error"

I am having the same problem. When I click "Accept" link, nothing happens. But i do get a javascript error: "WebForm_PostBackOptions" is undefined.

Also Rodney, i am still unable to start new threads on this (smart-thinker.com) forum. I get this error message: "Error: Add/Edit Post is currently unavailable."

There was no entry in the event log. When I click "Accept" the page simply refreshes but the user is not added as a friend, and the invitation doesn't go away.

Ok, found the problem with this. I needed to add Edit rights to the module. When i did this it worked correctly.

This link works:

http://www.smart-thinker.com/Support/Forums/tabid/111/forumid/11/threadid/3620/scope/posts/threadpage/1/Default.aspx

It appears to be a known issue with the "List View" mode of the friend module. Setting the mode to "Profile View" resolved the issue for me. I would recommend also setting "Show mode selection" to no.
