Re: Documentation  (United Kingdom)
Hi

The webcam module is an Iframe that can be used to point at an image or webpage - you will still need to use a program to copy the image from your webcam to a directory on your server, and then point this module at that file. How far have you got?

Thanks
Rodney

Re: Documentation  (United Kingdom)
Well, I have an x10 camera kit.  3 wireless cameras and an receiver that hooks in to an x10 port.  The software that I got with the cameras is bad.  I have not read any post of someone that got it to work.  So I am looking for a different way of host the cameras on a web page.

--------

Hmmm - I don't think this module is quite what you are looking for in that case - it is a very simple module used to display a static image that is already on the server with a refresh rate - I think you are looking more for something that can do streaming?

I think I read somewhere there is another webcam module that may achieve this - try Cathal's site - http://www.cathal.co.uk/Default.aspx?tabid=80

Re: Documentation  (N/A)
Hi Mike

Well I don't actually run a webcam anymore, so this is just this module pointing at an updating site (the Time site for now) to demonstrate the refresh capabilities. I was using some freeware software to capture an image and FTP to my server but it was nothing fancy.

Thanks
Rodney

Re: Documentation  (N/A)

So basically what this is, is the ability to display and image with your web cam taking snap shots and saving to the same file name over and over? So I point the source value to a local file system filename? If so, can I point it to a \\servername\sharename\directory\imagename.jpg  Or you're also saying it points to a web page. Does this mean? If I have a camera that comes with a web page to display the image this will do like an iframe to include the page inside the module. Is there a way to do this where you display live camera video and not just snap shots?

Re: Documentation  (N/A)
Hello

Yes, thats basically it. Perhaps the Webcam moniker is a little misleading - it's more of an Advanced IFrame module. It was born when I was using the core IFrame module to display an image that was FTP'd up from a webcam, and then I wrote some custom JScript to refresh the IFrame periodically in a HTML module. I thought it would be nice to package and share with others and hence this module.

Please note that this module functions EXACTLY like the core module (it is merely converted into C# and extended with the Jscript. Hence all the core Iframe bugs and limitations are present in this module too unfortunately. As you can see in my demo I am pointing at time-sensitive HTML page, so you could use it to point to the HTML page that your camera uploads to.

Thanks
Rodney
