I downloaded "Smart-Thinker - HomePage PA 04[1].00.01.zip" and installed it in DNN 4.03 (DNN 4.3) using SQL Server Express. I checked and it created the SQL Table and the stored procedures.
It uploads without any errors. When I place it on a page I get:

Thanks Michael - it seems as though some core methods (SynchronizeRoles no longer exists) were ripped out of some of the core code instead of being deprecated. I am working on a 4.3.1 version but it has all changed so much with Users/Roles etc. that I am not expecting it out before the weekend!

Hi Rod, what's the status on the Home Page module for DNN 4.3?
I've never used the Home Page module, and I bought the subscription specifically for the Home Page functionality. I was pretty disappointed to see that the DNN Core broke it. :-(
I'm a developer, so I understand the pain you must go through every time a new rev. of DNN is released. Take your time so that it's done right, but could you give me an update on when you think you'll be done? |

I am working on this as we speak (you may see my frantic posts on the main DNN forums trying to find out more about the breaking changes ;)
I can't upgrade my sites till this is done so it is top priority!

I went straight from DNN 3.x to 4.3, and there have been some significant changes (and a lot of broken parts). Take your time and let me know when you've a fix.

Can you clarify? Do you mean DNN 3.3.2, or an earlier version.
I am sure that you would get the same issues on versions 3.3.1, or above since these versions include the same changes to the Membership providers as the 4.3.x versions. |

Any updates on your progress/challenges would be appreciated. Either here or in your new Blog.
I won't ask for any ETA's, but you know how satisfying it is just to have signs of activity.

| I am using version 3.3.2. I upload mod without any problems but get the error when adding to a page.
I WOULD like to know when this is going to be fixed.
I am dissapointed that this commercial software completely falls over on first use and I am worried that my subscription will run out before the working version is available.

It's very unusual for a company to release a version of software that breaks compatiblity - but due to the core's use of the Membership provider this is what has happened. It was an unavoidable change unfortunately.
I am sorry you are dissapointed but my software is reliant on the core and if they make breaking changes then my code will break too.
Bear in mind that 4.3.2 and 3.3.2 are release candidates - there is no way you should be running this on a live server - we will upgrade Smart-Thinker.com and all client sites to the find gold release and we are trying to work out what the core has changed so that when the final 4.x version is released our module will be ready.
Also note that we will not be working on any future 3.x versions after the next 3.3.x version - there's simply not enough time to maintain 2 lines of different code so all future updates (unless it's a showstopping bug) will be in 4.x
If your subscription runs out and they have not released the final 3.3.x version then I can easily extend your subscription - that is not a problem.
As always - remember to always upgrade your staging or test servers first before you apply the changes to your live server.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any idea when there will be a version available for DNN 4.3? Will there ever be version for this? Or will you simply fix it for the next pukka version.
Thanks for the backup advise etc... I am currently only developing and need functionality in v4.3 hence the urgency.
One thing I would suggest that you clearly state what versions of DNN the modules will and will not work with on your promotion pages?

I completely understand your frustration! I was caught by surprise when the core broke my module (the HomePage module is quite unique - not many modules used the old back-ported Membership assembly).
I don't know if you follow my dev blog (http://www.smart-thinker.com/Blog/tabid/1070/Default.aspx), but the good news is that I have committed to releasing the 4.3.x version this coming weekend. You can also see that I am implementing major changes in Smart-Thinker (with regards to Licensing, Subscribers, dev process etc. and I am trying to dedicate more time to Smart-Thinker and it's modules (I work full time as a programmer but I am in negotiations to work part time and spend the time on Smart-Thinker).
I have really big plans for the Smart-Thinker modules (I'm working on a huge Events module update - check the Under Development screen) and a UserProfile rewrite to take advantage of the extensible core.
To summarise - sorry for the inconvenence - it's a rare situation when the core breaks compatibilty (2x -3x was the last time) and I am working on it. Expect an update this weekend - thanks for your support.

As promised, I have released version 04.03.01 today. Here is a list of enhancements and fixes:
- Updated to work with DNN 4.3.3+ (e.g. Changed old reference to new MS Access Data Block.dll etc.)
- Source converted to 2005 WAP project (C# and ASP.NET 2.0)
- Introduction of LicenseKey for free trial version and performs LicenseValidation on portal limit
- Localized "My HomePage", "Toggle Control Panel" button and other control text
- Localized newly added modules and new Page Name/Title/Keywords
- Removed dependency on Page Keywords (Field can now be edited)
- Control Modules on a HomePage are visible to the owner only now
- Modified SmartUserLink to use UserController instead of obsolete properties
- Made new module help text more explanative
- Replaced deprecated User/Role methods (retrieving roles/users and displayname etc.)
- Optimized PageCreation
- Fixed bug: Now retrieves modules by ModuleName and not FriendlyName
- Fixed bug when using DBOwner
- Fixed bug: Other user's HomePage's no longer in non-preview mode when viewing
- Removed redundant version upgrade code
- Adheres to DNN core document "Secure Module Development" (XSS, SQL Injections etc.)
- Adheres to DNN core document "DotNetNuke Module Developers Guide"
- Updated EULA to reflect new License Agreement and Portal Limations
I have not made any official public announcements yet because as I still have some marketing and site changes to make.
I have uploaded the PA in the members area (it has the word "Silver" in it, but this is for the new pricing options and nothing to do with existing subscribers). Please read the Module Config Guide before installing (after numerous customer requests it will now be online in the Forums and in the Module folder).
While I have spent the last 48 hours testing this module on all types of instllations/uninstalls etc. I was surprised by the amount of changes I had to make to get it to work with the new code in DNN 4.3.3. I would appreciate it if you could let me know if you see any odd issues (test on a staging server before upgrading your live server as always).
There are some changes in the Licensing with regards to number of portals and installations you are allower to use a module on, but these new licensing changes only apply to new customers (all existing, active subscribers can use the module as before of course!). I will be making the official announcement in the next few days with regards to Trial Versions and licensing. (Existing Customers - The download in the member's area contains a valid license, the Trial download on the Free Downloads page only contains a Trial License, so if you are an active subscriber then use the Member's Area instead)
And lastly - you will notice I have been making a lot of changes to the Smart-Thinker website lately - the new HomePage product info page is the new template for all ST products and they will be updated as the new Trial 4.3.x versions are released over the next 2 months...
