Please ensure you follow the bug-raising guidelines (e.g. post the full error from your Event Viewer) if you are raising a support call. To request a feature in a module, please use Feature Requests (unless you want to discuss it here in more detail first). If you have an urgent feature that you would like to see in the product then you should consider a Sponsored Enhancement.

HomePage 4.3.1 Problems  (United States)
Hi Rod,

As promised :-) Here are some questions/issues with the ST-Home Page module. I am running on DNN 4.4.0 with HomePage 4.3.1.

1. I am Unable to remove modules from HomePage Assigned list. It lets me remove and Update but when I go back they are still there. I can add new modules to the Assigned List but it won't let me remove them. I checked the Portal Log to see if any errors were generated but I find none.

2. We are still sttruggling with a previously reported problem where the [Toggle Control Panel] button doesn't work sometimes. I just tried the following on your site (Smart-Thinker.com) and found the same problem there. What I did was login using my boss's login (he padi for the subscription but I'm the one that use the site and everything worked fine. Then I logged in using my personal account and went to my home page and the toggle button does not work.

The Home Page module has mysteriously disappeared from the "Products and Modules" menu and the Products Page. Should I read between the lines here???? :-)

Thanks,
Chuck R.

Re: HomePage 4.3.1 Problems  (N/A)
Hi Chuck,

1) Hmm - I saw this a while ago but was sure it was fixed! Do you use a different ObjectQualifier or DBOwner?

2) I've never managed to figure this one out I am afraid. I've tried everything but it seems to be a caching issue - this is one of the reasons I am not happy with this module because of the way it manipulates roles and cookies to get around the 1 role per user problem, but that came at a cost!

Yes, I am trying to retire this module as soon as possible. I wrote about it here but I am waiting for another user to confirm that the last 2 issues reported with chil portals and the toolbar for non-admin editors are fixed, and then I will announce the latest version and my plans to retire it. You can read some more about it here (bottom):

The gist of it is that this module is costing me way too much time and therefore money, which is making Smart-Thinker unsustainable. Module sales are not great (15 - 20 a month, usually $50 which is $1000 (£500 ;)). This is a lot less than my salary as an Analyst Programmer in London used to be, and I have to be realisitc about how many modules I can work on, and if I am not getting the time to develop the Groups, Events and Profile module then sales will drop further. Hence I am taking drastic action and cutting back on all modules that are not worth the time  - I will be releasing the source to all Smart-Thinker customers so that everyone can work on the module and share the enhancements, but the architecture and "hackiness" of this module (to get around limitations in the core and the 1 role per user problem) make this module too expensive for me to maintain.

Obviously I am not happy about this and I feel bad for my customers, but either I stop selling modules and get back into the rat race or I have to do this - I hope you understand. I considered raising the prices of my modules, but even though I have spent hundreds of days of my (very valuable to me ;) time, the reality is that the DNN market will not pay more for modules, so this is not an option either. To be honest, the only thing that keeps me in module development is that I need the modules on PokerDIY (I don't use the HomePage module at all as my users would not comprehend the DNN Admin look and feel on their page). It's very unfortunate but that's the harsh reality... (you ask good questions Chuck, I am going to pin this too ;)

Thanks
Rodney

Rod,

Sorry for never answering your question. With the status of the module it seems like a moot point but anyway...

1. We don't use an Object Qualifier (objectQualifier="")

2. That's too bad but I understand. With this being the case do you plan to integrate the other ST modules with any other 3rd party solution (perhaps "MyProfile" from dnnfusion)?

Thanks
Chuck R.

Re: HomePage 4.3.1 Problems  (N/A)
Chuck, I've started a thread here (UserProfile Forum) to try and get some discussions going on realistically what people want and what I can deliver with the UserProfile module and social networking...

Lets get some ideas going!

Thanks

ps. This is actually very easy to do - their profile URL is:
http://www.dnnfusion.com/tabid/80/uid/[USERID]/Default.aspx

so you can do this in any template on Groups, Events or UserProfiles.

Thanks
Rodney
