Forum Guidelines

Please ensure you follow the bug-raising guidelines (e.g. post the full error from your Event Viewer) if you are raising a support call. To request a feature in a module, please use Feature Requests (unless you want to discuss it here in more detail first). If you have an urgent feature that you would like to see in the product then you should consider a Sponsored Enhancement

First Time User? Make sure you have read the Module Config Guide in the documents folder of each module. Also check out this handy Module Deployment Guide (written by a Smart-Thinker customer!)

Configuration issues and no time to read the Forums/Documentation? See our DotNetNuke Premium Support Service. We need your opinion! Please read our proposed new CrowdSourcing development method and let us know if you would be interested and if it might work.

Hidden Pages vs viewable  (United Kingdom)
The problem is that if you give everyone View access to your page then there will be hundreds of pages in the menu of your website, which would look really horrible.
The current version of the HomePage module is viewable only by the CreatedBy user - I want to change this in the next version, here is my proposal:

Due to the fact that everyone would see the pages if they had View rights to it, I think it makes sense to make the page hidden (this will solve the Admin/Maintenance side of it at least - the admin wont see all the HomePages).
This does mean that the user would have to give out their full URL to their page (with the TabID for example)m for someone else to access it. This is still acceptable. IF they wanted to go to the website normally home page first, then they would have to click on the "My HomePage" button to get to theirs (as opposed to the current version where the page is visible in the menu, as they can only see theirs). I guess this is still acceptable. What would be nice eventually would be to have a list of all other users how have HomePages and the ability to click on one to go to it, complete with a nice search function - eg. search other user's homepages.

I can't see this particular bit of functionality making the next version as I want to release the commented source and start working on the Role problem, but I think it is a nice thing to have in the future.

Any comments?

Thanks
Rodney
