| Where's Create Group? (United States) |
|
|
For some reason my site won't display the Create Group option for the MyGroups module. I have verified the premissions (allow registered users edit rights on the module) but no matter what I do I can't get the Create Group option to display. Did I miss something?
My site is http://www.momsunitednetwork.com/playgroup_registry.aspx.
Any help is much appreciated!

Hi Chris,
It may be your containers that are not rendering the module actions - try one of the core containers and see if it appears to confirm if this is the case. Thanks

Still no Joy. I replaced the container with the DNN Default container and I still don't see the "Create Group" button... Feel free to have a look at: http://www.momsunitednetwork.com/playgroup_registry.aspx... Registered users have edit rights on the module and, as I understand it, should the Create Group button. My Admin accounts can see the link but no one else can...

Hmm - I checked the code, and it's definitely looking for Edit Rights.
One thing, you say you can create it as Admin - can you click on Create Group and copy the URL, and then log in as a registered user and paste that URL and let me know what happens... Thanks

Yes, I noticed that the EditGroup (Create Group) view was allowing all users in - this is fixed in the upcoming version (4.3.5).
I really don't understand it - can you go into your Module Definitions for "Smart-Thinker - UserGroup" and click on the Edit control and change the type to Edit, and then try again? (this is fixed in the upcoming DNN file)
Also - are you sure that it is not the container? The admin user might be using a different skin/container from the normal user - this is the only thing I can think of and I have seen this before.
Thanks

I think I made the change as you specified but didn't see a difference. I even added the usrgroup module to a different page and changed the container. Still no luck. Is there something else we can look at?
Do you suppose we could get by if we simply create a link that sends the user to the create group module? Chris |

Yes, you can definitely just use a normal link (or a nice fancy button that points to the URL you copied - this is what I do on PokerDIY on the "Create a Group" tab (it's just an HTML module). I'd still love to get to the bottom of this though! Thanks

Yes, I changed the name from smart-thinking Usergroups to Usergroups. I couldn’t see the last part of the module name in the drop down.
I will remove and re-install the module and see if that solves the problem.
Chris
For the record, there is a CSS fix somewhere on the ST forums to increase the length of the Module DDL length which solves this problem.
You do not need to remove it - just rename it back should do the trick, although I don't understand why this would affect it but I am keen to know if it works.
Thanks

I tried the rename trick but that didn't seem to solve the issue... I will reload the groups module and see if it clears up the issue. This brings up a question though... Can I export out group information and then re-import? Chris |

No, you cannot export/import group data. You would need to copy the Group and GroupUser table and replace the data after install using SQL. I don't think that removing and re-installing will help, but then again I am stumped on this problem so if you are able to backup your data please let me know the result. Thanks

Just finished reloading the modules but the create group button still doesn't appear... I wonder if I am doing something wrong... Chris |

Thanks - I have now pinned that post as a lot of DNN skins seem to make this too small!
Unfortuanelty that still leaves us with the Create Group issue, which has stumped me... I have upgraded my test site to 4.6.2 so I will be making sure it is not a compatability issue, although the modules were confirmed as working when it came out originally. Thanks

I have been slow to customize... but I tried to create a manual link to the create groups page and found that it didn't work. So ignoring the issue of not showing the create group link doesn't work. I hate to ask but can we do some more work to try and get this to work correctly? Chris |

No problem Chris, can you let me have Admin access to that page? I should be able to determine if it is a bug or not fairly quickly. Can you email me log in details if poss (rod at smart-thinker.com) Thanks

I just noticed that I am now several versions behind, with mine being at 4.03.04... Being that I was never able to get mine to work is there a chance I can get the latest version without having to purchase a renewed subscription? Paying for the new version without getting the old version to work would be like paying twice for the same thing...
Oh and... Please? Chris |

I truly appreciate the offer. I was able somehow get things working... I ended up uninstalling all of the modules (sheesh, is there any way to remove more than one module at a time) and went through and deleted any previous files. I then added the modules back and it still didn't work. after scratching my head for some time I tried adding edit rights to registered users and then looked at the page with a non-admin. BINGO. A registered non-admin was able to see and use the create group link. I removed the page edit rights and made sure the module still had edit rights and then looked at it again with the non-admin account. BINGO, the non-admin account could see the link.
I went round and round with this and somehow stumbled on to a fix (of sorts). Not sure if I want to try and reproduce the problem...
It sure would be nice to upgrade to the latest version but for now I need to focus on getting something stable working right... I am now seeing a new issue (that I will post in another thread)...
Thanks again Rod for offering to help.
