Reproducable bugs with Smart Thinker User Groups  (United Kingdom)

Reproducable bugs with Smart Thinker User Groups Module....

I know this isn't supported any more, and I appreciate this module is for free... I'm just putting issues I find here with the Smart Thinker User Groups Module here for the record as I'm using this for the first time... Think of this as my public scrap book. Maybe this will help somebody, or you never know maybe there will be another version out sometime.

Anyway please refer to the bug number I state here should anybody wish to comment...

PLEASE NO "HOW DO I?" POSTS HERE - Find your own thread please. Hard core bug fixing / workaround or solutions only. Only reproducable Bugs.

Re: Reproducable bugs with Smart Thinker User Groups  (United Kingdom)
Modified By Alex Shirley on 3/7/2009 9:36:19 AM)

References

Bug Ref: UG01
Module Version: 4.3.7
DNN Version: 5.0.1

Problem

A major UI issue. You could argue this is a core bug, regardless this is a major UI issue that needs to be worked around. All the modules titles begin with "Smart Thinker User Groups", this gives us a problem with the control panel. We can't actually see the full module titles when adding a module as the field is too short.

Reproduction

Try adding a module to the page and I'll bet you a fiver you won't know what module it is until after you added it.

Suggested Fix Behaviour

Modules should be renamed thus:

[Module Title] (Smart Thinker) - Then we are in with a chance of finding what we need.

Workaround

Install every module on a page and take note of the positioning. Tiresome unfortunately.

RESOLVED: Install the next version of DNN to be released (DNN at this time currently stands at 5.0.1)

Re: Reproducable bugs with Smart Thinker User Groups  (Australia)

Hehe - I would definitely argue that it is a core (or skin!) issue! Here is the simplest workaround that I know (CSS hack).

Thanks

References

Bug Ref: UG02
Module Version: 4.3.8
DNN Version: 5.0.1
Module: UserGroup module

Problem

For some reason the number "1" always is displayed on the bottom right hand corner of the module all the time (whether there are any groups or not). The information does not seem to relate to anything.

Reproduction

Add a new Smart Thinker UserGroup module to a page..

Module: UserGroup Search

Problem

Resource cannot be found error when conducting a search with no criteria, or putting a space within the search

Reproduction

1) Add a module
2) Conduct a search with criteria and we get search results.
3) Conduct a search without search criteria "blank search" and we get: "The resource cannot be found."

Suggested Fix Behaviour

Add form validation.

Smart-Thinker - UserGroup Detail

Problem

What should actually happen is that:

a) We should remain at the same screen.
b) The user invited should disappear
c) We should have a confirmation ("The following users have been invited:") with a list below that.

Smart-Thinker - UserGroup Detail

Problem

It appears that a user can create a group and then automatically delete themselves from that group. This allows multiple orphan groups to spring up and allows people to register, created a group and then desubscribe.

Suggested Fix

If there is only one user in the group (the last user) then the group should be automatically deleted. The user should be warned about this. The exception to this maybe is the administrator or host might want to set up some groups without users to start off with.

Problem

LatestGroups.ascx Line 14:

The tool tip value needs quotes around it.

When a user has no groups, we just get the word "Groups" displayed

Resolution:

UserMyGroups.ascx.resx / linkNoGroups.Text should be changed to "Click here to find your first group".

Problem

I think (TBC) that this module mistakenly renders in html spmenu.js (SOLPART). I don't think this is required is it?
This causes big IE only javascript issues with tab modules such as the CSS tabs module by ManDeeps.

(nb solPart is now depreciated in DNN).

Enhancement

When someone leaves a group there is no notification email.

As a sidenote, we really need to be able to turn on/off email notifications everywhere. The administrator should have the ability to force settings and/or set defaults, and the user should have some sort control over their notifications as well. DNN I'm afraid suffers from this issue as well (working on it I believe).

Bug

In module settings the "Group Search Results Module" drop down list never persists when we click update. Ideally only relevant pages should be displayed in the drop down as well. Not sure why this functionality is here anyway.

Enhancement

When somebody joins a group the group administrator gets a notification which ends like:

Log in to [WEBSITE NAME] to view [USERNAME]'s profile if you want to know more about your latest group member!

We should really have:

a) A link to that member on that mail
b) A link to that group on that mail.
c) A new notification email sent to that person who just joined.

Smart-Thinker - UserProfile - Friends

Enhancement

Have the option to hide this module from users who aren't friends of that user. i.e. They have to become a friend of the user in order to see their friend's friends :). Even better have a customizable message saying they cannot see their friends unless they become a friend (this should happen for the wall as well).

Closing this off - My mistake, see here: http://www.smart-thinker.com/Support/Forums/tabid/111/forumid/11/threadid/5651/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Re: Reproducable bugs with Smart Thinker User Groups  (Denmark)

If i'm not misreading your post, this is already in UP called Private Profile. Once a profile goes private, you have to be friends with the user to see the wall, friends, groups etc.

Jesper, at the risk of sounding cheesy, you rock!!

Many thanks, I've updated that post.

Now I'm being cheeky, I don't suppose you have come across this issue (in otherword I want to get eyeballs on that thread next :-)
http://www.smart-thinker.com/Support/Forums/tabid/111/forumid/11/threadid/7256/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Many thanks... Onwards... NB Once I'm near completion with smartthinker, I'm going to rereview the threads I made like these... some are more "enhancement" than bug... and then I'll do a master post... with a bit of luck it will serve as some sort of future roadmap people could refer to when they ask for enhancements.
