How and What Modules are Being used in the Directory  (United States)

Can anyone offer some guidance or suggestions on what module(s) is (are) being used to create the DNN directory?

I am a newbie and am hoping to be able to create a similar directory for an animal shelter I volunteer at trying to list animals so that people can adopt a pet rather than kill them.

I want to follow the format in the DNN directory with a category listing and then the ability to drill into the short abstracts.  Also, is it possible to have sub-categories?

Any suggestions, help, or tips would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

Trebor

Hello Trebor,

The DotNetNuke Directory is using standard core modules - the basic core of the site is the Repository module from the DNN mothership. It is an incredibly powerful module (very much overlooked!) and can be customized using templates.

I started off with the core module and wrote a custom template for it. There is a very good user guide to download to explain templates in more detail and what is possible. The "Top Rated", "Latest" etc. are all part of the same module (dashboards).

Sub categories are in Gemini for a future version, but if you mention you need them on the Repository Forum it increases the likelihood of it being added sooner (I also want them).

I suggest you download and install the module and have a play around with it to see if it suits your needs (raise any Repository related queries on the Repository Forum - the guys there (headed by Steve and Mike) are really on the ball!

Thanks
Rodney

Could you share the custom template that you are using for the DNN Directory? I have been looking to create something similar for restaurants.

No, sorry, I wanted to keep something unique about the site and hence made the choice not to share this custom template. It's quite easy to modify if you start with one of the core templates and match it to your design though.

Thanks
Rodney
