Access to Wall after joining group  (Canada)

Rodney

The wall module is installed as Group Members/Owners can View and Group Owners/Members can write on a wall.  After a user joins a public group the wall module remains invisible on the group page.  A page refresh does not allow user to see the wall.  The only way we have been able to figure out the user to gain access to the wall is if the users logs out and then logs back in.  At that point the wall becomes visible and they can post.  Do you know of a way we can configure the modules so that when a user joins a group the wall becomes immediatly visible and they can post?

Thanks

Re: Access to Wall after joining group  (Australia)

Hi,

Due to the cost of the IsGroupMember check, I cache this value for 2 minutes. If you imagine 100 people viewing a group at once and they keep refreshing the page (or posting back for whatever reason) - a lot of SQL work wuold have to be done for each user. If you Join the Group it should be a maximum 2 minute wait before it appears. As soon as I release the next version of the Groups module this problem will be fixed as that module will invalidate the cache if a user joins or leaves a group, but I could not do this from the Wall module.

Thanks
Rodney

When are you planning to release this? Are you gonna allow groups to have their Avatar/Profile Pic?

Are you also planning the group module to give it's own event module like the Group wall? Please do that...

Re: Access to Wall after joining group  (Japan)
I have no timelines for this release yet – I need to finish the Event templating (this is a massive job but will deliver a much more useful solution – the templating will eventually be done on the Group Detail page too) and then possible a new version of the Groups module with this enhancement and a couple of others. The Wall enhancements are also piling up so I need to weigh which are more important. When you say Avatar – do you mean a pic in the search results like the League module does on PokerDIY? This is something I want to sneak into the next release…
Thanks

Re: Access to Wall after joining group  (Japan)

For the record, I have fixed this same issue in the latest upcoming Events release, so if you RSVP to an event that you were not yet invited to it immediately allows you to post on the Wall. I'll port the changes to the Groups module when I work on it again.

Thanks

Re: Access to Wall after joining group  (N/A)

Please add this problem for the next release of group module if possible. Its a minor bug but can be irritating at times.

Thanks!

Re: Access to Wall after joining group  (N/A)

Hmm - I am about to release 4.3.7 and have double-checked the cache invalidation. There is a chance it was disabled in the 4.3.6 version - download the new version in a few hours and please report back here.

Thanks

Re: Access to Wall after joining group  (N/A)

Hmm - that is strange - ok, lets start from the beginning -

  1. Ddoes the wall appear for public groups?
  2. Can you confirm the visibility settings and post edit Wall settings
  3. Can you check the View/Edit rights in the core module settings
  4. Do you have a public URL to view this on?
  5. Does the module eventually appear after a 2 minute wait, or does it never appear?

Thanks
Rodney
