German language-pack  (Germany)

Hallo,

I can't find it at your website:
Are german Language Packs available for your modules?

If not: How is it possible to translate your modules?

A second question:
Do you have a module for personalized foto-galleries. E.g.: where the youser can create there own gallary and upload there fotos and can share it for others in the community.

With best regards,
René

Re: German language-pack  (Australia)

Hi René,

Any language packs that are donated by customers are on the free downloads page, but there are only Danish packs for the other modules (I think someone did a French language pack for the Events module once).

The modules can be translated like all other modules - they use the .resx files and DNN localization standard, so all language strings can be edited with the Language Editor as per usual.

With regards to the second question - no sorry, we don't have a photo gallery module. Try Ultra Media Gallery, I think they do something similar.

Thanks
Rodney

Re: German language-pack  (Germany)

Now we translate the Modules "UserProfile" and "UserGroups" into German!
I found out that:

could not be translated. I can't find the entries in the resx files.
Is this right that this entries could not be translated?

With kind regards,
René

Re: German language-pack  (Australia)

Hello René,

Unfortunately you have come across a problem that has existed for many years - the Smart-Thinker modules rely heavily on the core List functionality (this is the Smart-Thinker Group Category list (you can edit them) and core List localization is only scheduled for a later release (it's been on the roadmap for a few years). All I can say is that the more pressure that is put on them in the core forums the more chance their is of this being done (core Lists dynamic localization).

You can of course change them all to German, but then you won't have the English ones...

Thanks
Rodney

Modified By aubkoeln on 1/2/2008 9:04:12 AM)

There are some points which could not be translated:

  1. "UserGroup - LatestGroups" the word "by" could not be translated (Groupname by username).
  2. "UserGroup Search" the "Search"-button could not be translated.
  3. Also the buttons: "Add to group", "Add to friends" and "Send Message" could not be translated.
  4. In the "UserProfile - Birthdays"-modul is a combo-box with three entries: "Future Birthdays", "Past Birthdays" and "All Birthdays". These could also not be translated.
  5. In the module "UserGroup UserMyGroups" there comes a text "not a member of any groups" this text is also not be translatable.

Is it possible to get a version wheres this items could be translated?

With kind regards,
René

Ps. What musst I do to get an notification by e-mail here? (The check-mark "Notification" and "" are activated)

Re: German language-pack  (Australia)

Thanks for bringing these to my attention. I have made a note of this and will fix it in the next version of the Groups module. I need to do a small release in the next few weeks to conincide with the new Wall module, so I will get it out then. Please let me know if you find any more.

Thanks

That the lists could only used for one language is already known!? This is also not so fine.
The points of my post are not only in the user group, there are also in the user prifile modules (as i've wrote it there).
If we find more points I will let you know.
When will you release the new version? (Because we have "silver" and therefore only two month updates)

With kind regards,
René

Ps.: Why is it not possible to use Template Parameters e.g. [AGE] in the user group directory?

Re: German language-pack  (Australia)

The list problem has been around for over 2 years - Dynamic Localisation has been on the core roadmap for that length of time too. There's not much we can do short of asking for the core to raise it's priority.

I will fix all the missing strings you find - it's hard for me to test it without live language data. Don't worry, just remind me of this post and if your Updates have expired after I release the versions I will give you access again.

Group Template - Let me look into this - I think it's because the only way this would work would be if you had the ST UserProfile module installed, and not everyone does, but I need to check the code again.

Thanks

If it will help you, we can give you our tranlations for user-profile and user-groups (events will follow). Then it will be nice if you gif us a longer period of support and updates.

Re: German language-pack  (Australia)

Yes, the offer is good. Just remind me of this thread when you need the modules as I release them.

The Thread posting problem is a bug in the core DNN forums - please try the solutions suggested in this thread. I have raised this problem many times on the core forums (I can't post there). Apparently if you remove your thread notifications it works but I could not get this to happen on the core forums.

Thanks

Re: German language-pack  (Germany)

If I click on " " there comes an error:
"A critical error has occurred.
Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_Forum_TrackedThreads'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.Forum_TrackedThreads'. The statement has been terminated." So I can't remove my thread notifications.

How should I send you the german ressource files?

Can you send it to rod . smart-thinker.com please.

I am just about to release a new version of the Smart-Thinker UserProfile - are there any missing strings in it?

Forum problem - I am trying to get an answer on the core forums about this...

Thanks

Re: German language-pack  (Australia)

Thanks - I have received it.

re. Buttons: These cannot be localised - there is only one image per module. The only suggestion I have is to remove the word from the image and use a generic icon that makes sense in all languages. This will get around the problem.

I have fixed the Birthdays dropdown - Version 4.3.10 should be available for download later today.

Thanks

I've tested the new version and could translate the items. Thanks!
When will you release the user group modules?
One suggestion could you change the "friendly names" of your modules? Because they are so long you couldn't see which module you whant to add to your page. In the combobox you see only "Smart Thinker User" the rest is cut off.
I'll send you the ResourcePack for UserProfile.04.03.10 now per e-mail.

Greets,
René

Re: German language-pack  (Australia)

UserGroup module - this is hard to say - I have not scheduled a release yet. I am about to release the new Smart-Thinker Wall module (like a Facebook-style Wall module) and then I need to release an updated Events version (do you use Events?). Possibly after this (there is nothing really urgent (besides the language strings) at the moment).

Thanks for the packs - hopefully they will be of use to other customers!

FriendlyNames - there is an easy fix for this... (I blame the Skin for this, not the length of the names ;)

Thanks

Re: German language-pack  (Australia)

Please note points 1,2 and 5 have all been fixed in the latest version (4.3.6) which I am dogfooding on my poker site at the moment. If I have no issues then it should be released tomorrow. Check the Forums for the release notes...
