Hardware  (Denmark)
Modified By Jesper on 5/26/2008 11:19:14 AM)

This is a question about hardware needed running DNN sites.

Today, privately, I'm using a dual AMD 1,5GHz CPU server with 1Gb of memory. This works fine most of the time but if I do a log clean (scheduled) the server gets sluggish and sometimes even down right slow (with time outs). The server holds 3 DNN instances with no child portals. No more then 20 users at once combined normally.

Lets say I want to do some translations and I use the Language page within the host/admin menu. It takes some 30+ secs "loading" the page. Looking at the CPU load, its never above 40% on any CPU. This tells me, updating my hardware to, say a Duo2Core Intel CPU I wouldn't see a better performance, as the CPU is not overloaded at the current AMD setup. Why is DNN so slow, when it comes to these back end things?

At one point I had 5000+ (guest) users with no performance issues at all. It worked just fine and I have to say, I was impressed that day. But still when doing stuff like translations and loading the site for the first time after a server restart, it takes forever to load. Anyone knows why?

Re: Hardware  (Australia)

I have the same issue with translations - the Language Editor takes forever to load and is a comple pain to use (although this is also down to my temporary 256 k ADSL). It sounds like you have a similar set up to me - 3 DNN instances/DB's, no chilc portals, 5 portals in total. My sites do not take too long to restrart, but I shudder when I have to edit language strings - maybe one for the core forums?

Thanks
Rodney
